WINNIPEG – Police recovered a body from a Pritchard Avenue home Monday evening, nearly 12 hours after fire damaged the residence.
The fire sparked on the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue just before 6 a.m. Fire crews on scene Monday morning said there were no occupants inside the home at the time of the blaze. They also said police had been at the scene first and called in the fire department.

The Winnipeg police identification unit was called to the house Monday afternoon. Officers confirmed Monday night at body was recovered from the home.
The person, who is not being identified at this time, was found dead inside the house after the fire was extinguished.
The death is considered suspicious and the homicide unit is investigating, police said Tuesday.
Two cats perished in the blaze, firefighters said.
