EDMONTON — The Medical Examiner confirmed human remains found inside a burned SUV in Strathcona County early Monday morning are connected to a homicide.
At around 4:20 a.m. Monday, Strathcona County RCMP and EMS were called to a vehicle fire in the area of Range Road 224 and Township Road 534, northeast of Sherwood Park.
“By the time police arrived, Strathcona County Emergency Services already had the fire extinguished, and then shortly after that human remains were discovered inside,” said Cpl. Darren Anderson.
On Wednesday, RCMP said the “manner of death” was confirmed to be “a homicide.” They did not release the cause of death.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Dylan Anthony Cleet. He was from Fort Saskatchewan and recently lived in Edmonton.
Investigators are hoping to speak with Cleet’s girlfriend who has not been identified yet. They say she is not a suspect but may have information that would help the investigation. Anyone who is able to identify her or has information about Cleet is asked to contact Strathcona County RCMP.
Police are asking members of the public to come forward if they have any information about the burned SUV, which RCMP said was a silver, 2011 Dodge Journey, licence plate number BLW 4278.
