TORONTO – The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Bennett will lead the Canadian men’s basketball team at the Pan Am Games after the 12-man roster was announced Saturday.
NBA players Andrew Nicholson of the Orlando Magic and Sim Bhullar of the Sacramento Kings will join the former first overall NBA draft pick as Canada competes for Pan Am gold.

The team is composed of dynamic veterans and rookies, including the youngest member Jamal Murray who has committed to play for the NCAA’s Kentucky Wildcats.

Notably absent from the roster is NBA rookie-of-the-year Andrew Wiggins, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson and Boston Celtic Kelly Olynk who had decided to forgo the Pan Am Games in favour of the the FIBA Americas men’s championship, which is an Olympic qualifier, being held in Mexico later this summer.
The European pros Aaron Doornekamp, Junior Cadougan, Melvin Ejim and Brady Heslip who was a last minute addition to the tryout roster arriving in Toronto just a few days ago.
U.S. Division I college players Dillon Brooks and Kyle Wiltjer join Bennett and Bhullar in their first appearances on the senior men’s basketball team.
