SASKATOON – Saskatoon is trying to make evacuees’ stay a little more comfortable as they wait for wildfires in northern Saskatchewan to die down. The city is letting its northern guests know about services available to them.

According to the city on Friday, there were around 550 evacuees at the Henk Ruys Soccer Centre and SaskTel Sports Centre. Thousands more are staying in hotels and with family and friends.

Evacuees who want to get around can take advantage of the Saskatoon Transit service, free of charge. They only need to present their Red Cross wristband which grants them unlimited access to all bus routes.

The city is also working with the Red Cross to facilitate access to leisure centres, public pools, spray parks, youth centre programs and libraries.

Evacuees looking to keep in touch with family and friends can show up at any of the eight public libraries and use the computers. Those without identification can make special arrangements with staff.

In addition to providing free internet, Saskatoon Public Library’s summer programming is in full swing for some family fun.
