Woman caught on camera stealing dog from market

WATCH ABOVE: A blonde woman in a red shirt was caught on camera taking a dog named Suki, who was tied up outside, from a Brooklyn market while its caregiver was inside. Valerie Castro reports.

TORONTO – Security cameras captured a blatant dognapping in front of a store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn Saturday night.

Guadalupe Garcia is baffled by why anyone would steal her roommate’s black Pomeranian named Suki.

The video footage shows Garcia arrive at Khim’s Millenium Market with Suki. She ties the dog’s leash to a post outside the shop before entering.

Shortly after, a blonde woman walks by the store, stopping to pet Suki. She picks out a bouquet of flowers and heads inside to pay for them. As she exits, she reaches down to unhook Suki’s leash and scoops him up into her arms and walks off.

“Who comes to a shop, buys flowers and steals a dog? It’s like stealing a kid.” Garcia told CBS.

Garcia told ABC that the snatching took less than five minutes.

Suki’s owner is away in Europe and Garcia was taking care of the dog in the meantime. She is devastated by the loss of whom she considers a family member.

“I thought it was a bad dream, that I was going to wake up any moment and then you start realizing it’s the reality. He’s part of the family,” she said. “He’s not just a dog, he’s really part of our family.”

Despite facing the harsh reality of losing Suki, Garcia is not assuming the worst about the blonde woman.

“She had a moment and fell in love with him – we want to assume that. She just took the opportunity and kidnapped him, but she needs to give him back.”

Garcia is offering a cash reward for the safe return of Suki.
