Wish comes true for 6-year-old with leukemia

WATCH ABOVE: A family from Laval is soldiering through some terrible news, but is holding out for a happy ending. Billy Shields has more.

POINTE-CLAIRE – Almost two years ago, six-year-old Eloise Desjardins had a shaved head as she was starting chemotherapy for leukemia.

Now she’s heading to Disney World and Discovery Cove, a gift she was surprised to get at Fairview Mall Saturday.

The gift comes from the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and is one of 50 such gifts the non-profit makes every year.

“I just hope her whole trip is a special trip,” said Ghislain Gagne, the man behind  “Capt. Starlight.”

Desjardins was in high spirits Saturday morning, and her prognosis is improving. Her hair’s grown back, and her parents are hopeful that when her treatments end in December she’ll be cancer-free.

“For sure there’s still a risk,” said her father, Charles Desjardins.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation subtly consults with the recipients to grant a wish that is unique to the individual.
