Two people killed after car gets hit by cement truck near Strathmore

CALGARY – RCMP were called to Highway 817 and Highway 901 south of Strathmore, shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

RCMP says a Toyota Matrix was travelling northbound on 817, which is a controlled intersection, when it got hit by a semi truck hauling cement.

Mounties believe the car stopped at the intersection but then pulled up and into the path of a westbound cement truck.

When Police arrived, 2 people in the Toyota Matrix were confirmed dead at the scene.

A 16-year-old boy from Strathmore and a 63-year-old woman believed from Calgary were killed.  The driver of the semi was not injured.

Highways were till open but RCMP remained on scene for sometime investigating.

At this time, alcohol, weather and road conditions have been ruled out as factors in this collision.
