MONTREAL – One of Quebec’s ten most wanted men has been arrested in San Francisco.

Harinder Singh Cheema, 36, was charged with second-degree murder after his then 29-year-old partner Gurpreet Kaur was found dead Christmas morning, 2007 in an apartment on Deguire street in the Saint-Laurent borough of Montreal.

“Her body was discovered in the living room,” Denis Hogg, a homicide investigator told Global News back in 2008.

“She had a cut to her throat as well as stab wounds to her upper chest.”

Witnesses saw him quickly leaving the residence and according to police information, he dropped off his two children at a friend’s home and never returned.

“We went to Toronto, met with this woman, she informed us that she had a relationship with Cheema, which had been going on for about three years,” Hogg had told Global News.

“They hadn’t spoken that much, but they had discussed the possibility of getting married in the future.”

Authorities believed Cheema slipped into the US via British Columbia – he was a truck driver by trade and often travelled between the two countries.

He had been on the run since January 2008.
