TORONTO — Toronto police and the TTC say a suspicious package found at Spadina subway station Wednesday afternoon has been deemed safe.
Const. Jennifer Sidhu said police responded to a call just before 5 p.m. about a suspicious package at the west entrance described as consisting of “three rolls” that were covered in multi-coloured electrical tape.
“There are no wires or leaks coming from it. It’s just something wrapped up with lots of different colours in electrical tape,” she said.

“We treat them all seriously … so it’s being treated like it’s an actual suspicious package.”
Sarah Currie, spokeswoman for the TTC, said the station has been evacuated as the police investigation continues.
Sidhu said a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives (CBRNE) team is at the station investigating the package.
“Streetcars are not being allowed to enter they’re closing the station as well,” she said.
“That entrance where this package was found there’s no collector booth, it’s just a turnstile so you need to have a pass to go through it and so they’ve just not allowed pedestrians to go thorough there so that part’s been blocked off.”
She added that police, TTC special constables and the CBRNE team are all on scene as a safety precaution.
“They’ve closed off that that area for anyone to enter,” she said. “But traffic is resuming as is on the roads and outside the station.”
