The Sheepdogs at the 42nd Juno Awards

William Shatner will host the 2013 Juno Awards that could give Saskatoon’s own ‘The Sheepdogs’ their first Juno award.

The local band will go up against such Canadian superstars as Nickelback, Sloan and the Sam Roberts Band.

The Sheepdogs are nominated for Single of the Year, New Group of the Year and Rock Album of the Year.

The 2012 Juno Awards are on April 1st in Ottawa.

  • Ryan Gullen (bass/vocals)
  • Leot Hanson (guitar/ vocals)
  • Sam Corbett (drums/vocals)

The band formed in 2005 and independently released three albums before competing in the “Do You Want Be A Rock & Roll Star’ national contest. The Sheepdogs won the six-month long competition to be the first band or artist not signed with a major label to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine.

They beat out 15 other bands to be featured on the August 18th, 2011 magazine cover.  Voted by more than 1.5-million fans worldwide, they garnered a deal with Atlantic Records, a performance at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, two appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and hit the magazine shelves on August 5th.

The Sheepdogs are now part of Warner Music Group, which signed such bands as Rush, Led Zeppelin and Genesis.

Their latest EP Five Easy Pieces debuted at Number 1 on ITunes in Canada and number 7 on the Canadian Albums Chart.

On November 9th, 2011 the band announced that their album ‘Learn & Burn’ had gone gold in Canada. It was certified Gold in Canada on November 24th, 2011.

Regina will host the 2013 Juno Awards which will be the second time the ceremonies will be held in the province since 2007. Nelly Furtado hosted the award show when Saskatoon held the 36th Juno’s in 2007.

The Saskatchewan boys have also won Independent Album of the Year (2011) at the Western Canadian Music Awards.
