Impairment and speeding are believed to be factors in a crash on Highway 1 in North Vancouver Wednesday evening.
BC RCMP Traffic Services says at about 8:30 p.m., a 2013 Porsche was seen driving at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 1 between Lonsdale Avenue and Westview Drive.
The Porsche made an unsafe lane change, colliding with a Toyota Camry. Due to the impact, the Camry spun around and was then struck by a Toyota Tundra pick-up truck. The Porsche then hit a Mazda CX5 SUV, which collided with the concrete barrier and was pushed into the eastbound lanes. An approaching Acura sedan, in an attempt to avoid the collision, also struck the concrete barrier.

The driver and passengers of both the Porsche and Mazda were taken by ambulance to hospital and have since been released.
RCMP say the driver of the Porsche was arrested for drunk driving, impaired operation causing bodily harm and refusal to provide a blood sample. Charges will be forwarded to Crown Counsel and the identity of the driver will not be released until charges are laid.
“This is another example of extremely high-risk driving behaviour that puts the lives of all road users at risk,” said Cpl. Ronda Rempel of BC RCMP Traffic Services.
The highway was closed for several hours while the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstructionist Service (ICARS) were on scene.
