Woman dies after 401 crash Friday morning

TORONTO – A woman is dead after a crash on Highway 401 early Friday morning.

The woman’s car was rear-ended by an SUV near the junction of Hwy 401 and Hwy 427 just before 3 a.m.

Police believe the car may have been stopped or driving slowly.

“One vehicle, the Sedan, was travelling eastbound, either disabled or driving very slowly in the right lane or partly on the shoulder. It was rear ended by an SUV. That SUV rolled over,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The eastbound collector lanes east of Dixie were closed.

Traffic was diverted to the express lanes.
