Dashcam footage shows peaceful arrest of Dylann Roof after Charleston shooting

Dashcam footage of Dylann Roof’s arrest the day after he allegedly killed nine people inside a Charleston, South Carolina church shows him being peacefully arrested and led to a police cruiser.

The footage, initially obtained by a television reporter in Shelby, North Carolina, shows Roof dressed in a white T-shirt, with his hands restrained behind his back, being led off camera by a police officer.

The video is only 11 seconds, but shows at least five officers directly involved in Roof’s arrest.

Roof was arrested in Shelby, North Carolina, less than 24 hours after the shooting in Charleston. He was arrested during a traffic stop after police were notified of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

He was then taken back to Charleston.

Roof has been charged with nine counts of murder as well as possessing a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The 21-year-old alleged gunman reportedly sat in on a bible study at the AME Church in Charleston before opening fire, and according to a friend of his, he had complained before that “blacks were taking over the world” and “someone needed to do something about it for the white race.”
