YELLOWKNIFE – Aviation services company Discovery Air (TSX:DA.A) says it has acquired a Chilean helicopter services company for an undisclosed price.
The company said Thursday its subsidiary, Great Slave Helicopters Ltd., had completed the purchase of Servicios Aereos Helicopters.cl Ltda, or SAL, of Chile.
The 10 year old Chilean company provides helicopter services to domestic and multinational customers in the mining, power construction, and forestry sectors of the Chilean economy. SAL has 10 aircraft.

“We are very pleased to have SAL join our rotary services team, and feel they are an ideal partner for (Great Slave) in the Chilean market, and that SAL will further expand Discovery Air’s presence in South America.”
SAL founder Carlos Lopez said the deal will help his company grow.
“Opportunities for aviation services in Chile and the rest of South America are expanding rapidly, and joining the Discovery Air team will allow SAL to offer our clients an even greater portfolio of services.”
Last month, Discovery Air reported its net profits rose 63 per cent to $6.2 million in the third quarter, saying it experienced growth in a difficult economic climate.
Revenues were up 25 per cent to $55.1 million in the quarter.
Discovery Air operates more than 140 aircraft and employs 850 people providing helicopter, training and other services to miners, energy companies, the military and other customers.
