VERNON – The Mounties in Vernon say the city is being hard hit by fraud artists.
In the past week, RCMP have received more than 30 complaints from people regarding two different scams.
In one, a caller who claims to be from Revenue Canada says money is owed to you and banking details are asked for.
The other has people receiving a call, purportedly from BC Hydro, saying their electricity will be cut off in 45 minutes if money is not sent.
“The police are reminding residents of the north Okanagan to please be careful and do not respond to these scams or any other that will be sure to follow shortly,” warns RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk in a news release.
He urges anyone who receives suspicious communications to immediately report it to info@antifraudcentre.ca or to the agency it appears to be from.
