CALGARY – Olympic speedskating champion Christine Nesbitt has announced her retirement.

Nesbitt won gold in the 1,000 metres at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

A left-leg injury slowed her down four years later in Sochi, Russia, where she finished ninth.

The 30-year-old from London, Ont., sat this past season out to rehabilitate the injury.

Nesbitt is a three-time world champion in the 1,000 metres.
