Imagine knowing there was an operation that could save your life but there was a ten year waiting list standing in your way. That’s the reality facing Canadians who are morbidly obese-Canadians who have tried everything they could, and whose last hope may be weight loss surgery.

But that surgery is not easy to get-and many Canadians are forced to wait up to 10 years to get the surgery. And, for some, that wait time could be the difference between life and death. 16×9 follows the story of one woman on the wait list who wrote her own obituary believing she did have 10 years to live.

The surgery has been proven effective. One Canadian study shows a reduction in obesity related deaths of 89 percent. But experts say obesity is not a priority in the Canadian health care system and so Canadians battling obesity are left behind.
