Threats exchanged after accused Regina killer’s court appearance

REGINA – There was a strong security presence for Duran Redwood’s second court appearance Monday, which proved necessary.

Loved ones of both Celeste Yawney and the man charged in her death packed inside the Regina courtroom.

Moments after the case was adjourned, emotions strongly felt inside the courtroom, spilled outside.

Security had to split up a verbal altercation between a group of women and escort them to their vehicles.

Yawney was found dead in her north west home on May 24th and Redwood was charged with second degree murder in her death.

Friends say the pair were in an on and off again relationship and hope her death acts as a wakeup call surrounding the issue of domestic violence.

“It starts with a push or maybe starts with him swearing at you. That’s a red flag that you need to get out of that relationship because that’s not love,” said Claudette Kennedy.

She held a sign outside the courthouse that read, “Justice for Celeste. Stop Domestic Abuse. Break the Cycle.”

“I figured we could be Celeste’s voice because she can’t speak for herself right now,“ Kennedy added.

Redwood appeared in court via video.  He kept his head lowered throughout the short proceedings and wiped his eyes at times.

He’ll back in court on June 15th.
