Calgary kids hope to prevent bullying with ‘Friendship Bench’

CALGARY – Students at Capitol Hill School are proud of the new addition they’ve created that will be featured beside their playground.

A Grade 4 and 5 class got out their brushes and painted custom designs to make a “Friendship Bench.”

It features colourful images like rainbows and happy faces, along with inspirational quotes.

They hope any fellow students who are feeling lonely or left out will sit down on it and start talking with other kids.

The idea for the project came from a Grade 4 girl who experienced some verbal bullying at her previous school.

She and her classmates hope the bench will help prevent anything like that at Capitol Hill.
