WINNIPEG – The 19-year-old killed when his speeding motorcycle and an SUV crashed in Richmond West at around 10 p.m. Tuesday was Khizar Malik Ghalib, Global News has learned.

Ghalib, a Dakota Collegiate graduate, died in hospital after the collision at the corner of Waverley Street and Lee Boulevard, police said. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Ghalib was travelling at a “high rate of speed” north on Waverley when his motorcycle hit a southbound SUV turning left onto Lee, police said. Waverley was closed at John Angus Drive after the crash but reopened by 5:30 a.m.

Ghalib’s Instagram account includes multiple photos of his motorcycle, including a shot of the Suzuki with the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in the background and the caption, “Our first anniversary!” It was posted six weeks ago.

His uncle, reached by telephone, said the family was too distraught to talk about Ghalib’s death.

Ghalib recently posted an Instagram image of a tweet from July 2011 that read “My goal by 2015 is to own a sports bike and a Range Rover and travel to Dubai or Thailand. I’m gonna make it happen.”

The account features shots of Ghalib in Dubai — his Facebook page includes a video of him skydiving there — and a photo of a Range Rover.

“Three and a half years ago I tweeted this on my old Twitter account,” the caption on the Instagram image of the tweet states. “A lot of my friends replied to it making fun of me and putting me down. I got so hurt that I had to delete my Twitter. I don’t mean to brag but I’m proud of myself today and I’m really happy that accomplished exactly what I said. Set goals people. Nothing happens overnight.”
