“Now with Amber Trails, this is just constant traffic and a lot of speeders,” said Gary Karpyshin, who lives on Templeton between McPhillips and Pipeline. “We have police that have been parking in my yard here ticketing speeders.”

He has lived on the stretch for 70 years and says the city should restrict truck traffic on the road.

He says the traffic is constant and because the road is gravel, vehicles kick up clouds of dust.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“All my neighbours complain every day about dust and speeding,” Karpyshin said.

It is a problem he fears will only get worse.

“We’re trapped and now across the street there is a plan,” said Karpyshin. “The is all going to be housing here.”

The field just north of Templeton is slated to be turned into housing with the only entrances to the development off the avenue. That means even more traffic into the area.

“You know what a construction area is like, the dirt and mud coming in, it is what we have to live with,” Karpyshin said.

The one bright side in the development is the developer has to make improvements to Templeton however Karpyshin feels that could still be years away.

As for Court Avenue, the area councillor acknowledges it needs to be paved.

“I think its very important that road be paved,” said Devi Sharma, the councillor for Old Kildonan.

However the option for that to happen right now is if residents along the stretch pay out of their own pockets.

“This is a local street and this is the program we have for paving local streets.,” Sharma said.

The city says there are 169 segments of gravel roads in Winnipeg which works out to 149 Kilometres.
