SASKATOON – Street sweeping is expected to kick back into high gear in Saskatoon Monday. City crews will be out cleaning roads in neighbourhoods starting at 7 a.m.

If the weather cooperates, all of Saskatoon’s streets will be swept in six weeks, according to the city.

Civic crews started sweeping in mid-April along 830 lane kilometers of high-traffic streets. Over 650 loads of debris have already been collected during the spring sweeping blitz.

“As a result of [last] weekend’s snow storm, sweeping on a few streets scheduled during the blitz had to be postponed and will be completed next week,” said Pat Hyde, the city’s director of public works.

Signage will be placed throughout the scheduled areas at least 36 hours in advance of sweeping.

The city says vehicles that remain on scheduled streets will be ticketed $100 and relocated to a nearby road. Motorists can find towed vehicle online or by calling customer service at 306-975-2476.

“Drivers are reminded to be patient and drive carefully when they encounter slow moving street sweeping vehicles,” says Hyde.

For the safety of students, roadways with school zones will be swept at night.

The city says people can stay informed to adjustments by keeping an eye on its schedule.
