City council meeting interrupted by mayor going pee

WATCH ABOVE: Rachael Jonrowe could barely keep it together during a city council meeting last week.

TORONTO – The mayor of a small city in Texas, and at least one of his councillors, have become infamous across the globe for the most unlikely of reasons – and it involves a lot of toilet humour.

Dale Ross is the mayor of Georgetown, a northern suburb of Austin. After introducing ‘Item R’ at a council meeting last Tuesday, he excused himself to go to the bathroom.

Everything seemed fine when mayor pro tem Rachael Jonrowe began discussing a serious resolution involving infectious diseases and the use of antibiotics.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

But Jonrowe caught herself moments later when the council chamber was filled with a familiar noise pumped out by the room’s audio system.

The mayor was taking a leak, everyone was quick to realize, and he had left his microphone on. If that sounds familiar, it’s because a similar scene played out in the movie “The Naked Gun” starring Regina-born actor Leslie Nielsen.

City staff posted video of the council meeting online and it didn’t take long for the silly incident to finds its way to YouTube.

Ross’ audible moment of relief has been watched and listened to over one million times at the time of this writing.
