Baltimore police release man allegedly ‘kidnapped’ in protests

Joseph Kent, the well-known activist whose so-called “kidnapping” was caught live on CNN, has been released by police less than 48 hours after his arrest, according to a tweet from his attorney.

Kent was arrested late Tuesday night while pacing in front of a line of riot police with his hands in the air.

A CNN camera was following him as he walked back and forth when a Humvee came between the camera and Kent while a group of police swarmed the protester and arrested him.

Kent was arrested at approximately 10:40 p.m. ET on Tuesday, 40 minutes after a city-wide curfew went into effect.

Kent was being held on charges of a curfew violation, his lawyer Steve Beatty confirmed to CNN.

Outrage over his arrest spread quickly on social media as people watching the riots unfolding in Baltimore suggested he had been “kidnapped” or “disappeared.”
