TORONTO — Canadian pop star Justin Bieber says his recent apologies for past bad behaviour are heartfelt and he hopes people are believers.
“I hope people felt the sincerity in my apologies,” he said in an interview published in the new issue of Hero Magazine.
“There are a lot of things that have happened in the last couple years that I’m not very proud of, and I feel a responsibility to my fans and to the public who believe in me to make it right. I hope everyone believed it — because it was honest.”
Bieber apologized for his behaviour during a celebrity roast in his honour in March.

“I turned a lot of people off over the past few years, but I know I can still turn out good music and turn everything all around,” said Bieber, whose music has been overshadowed by his offstage antics, which include reckless driving, public urination and throwing eggs at a neighbour’s home.
“I’ve lost some of my best qualities. For that, I am sorry. I’m looking forward to being someone who you guys can all look at and be proud of.”
In January, he posted a video online in which he confessed: “I’m not who I was pretending to be. Often we pretend to be something we’re not as a cover-up of what we’re truly feeling inside. There was a lot of feelings going on in there.”
The 21-year-old Ontario native said achieving global success so early in life presented some challenges that he didn’t know how to handle.
“It’s definitely hard having so many people judge you from a distance,” said Bieber. “Sometimes you just want to explain yourself, but then that’s giving into gossip and it makes things worse. It’s a tough line to walk.”
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Bieber is in Rome to make appearance in Zoolander 2.
The singer and two of his bodyguards are wanted in Argentina for questioning in connection with an alleged assault on paparazzo Diego Pesoa. Earlier this month, an Argentine judge issued an arrest warrant for Bieber.
Argentina and Italy have an extradition agreement but, contrary to a report, Bieber is not expected to be arrested.
