Alberta Election 2015: Leader of the official opposition wins seat in Fort McMurray-Conklin

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean has won his first seat in Alberta provincial politics in the riding of Fort McMurray-Conklin. He beat out PC candidate and Advanced Education Minister Don Scott.

The Wildrose has been named the province’s Official Opposition, which Jean says is what Albertans want.

“Whatever it takes we will do to keep Albertans recognizing that we are a strong opposition and that we are ready to govern some time in the future,” the new MLA said Tuesday night in Fort McMurray.

Jean’s Deputy Campaign Manager Vitor Marciano says voters were looking for change in this election.

“Thirty-seven days ago, Brian Jean won the Wildrose leadership,” Marciano said tonight.

“We’ve won what I think is an excellent campaign. We’ve said all along Albertans are going to vote for change; it was either going to be Wildrose change or NDP change. They’ve chosen NDP change but they’ve made us the official opposition.”
