SASKATOON – Spot suspicious activity or people in your neighbourhood? Saskatoon police have some tips they say will help them when officers respond to those calls.

In 2014, police officials say they received 6,264 reports of suspicious activity or persons, with officers sent to 5,836 of those calls. They say those reports help police reduce crime and make neighbourhoods safer.

There is some information police say will help them when responding to those calls:

  • Have a physical description – height, weight, hair colour and any identifying characteristics;
  • What clothing they are wearing;
  • Make, model, colour and licence plate of suspicious vehicles;
  • The type of suspicious activity.

Timeless is also critical when making the reports and police say they should be notified immediately. When children spot suspicious activity or people, they should notify a trusted adult who, in turn, should call police.

Police are also asking people to be vigilant about their own safety:

  • Walk in populated, well lit areas;
  • Carry a cell phone;
  • Let someone know where you are going and when you will return;
  • Be aware of your surroundings;
  • Children should walk or play in pairs or groups and stick to well-travelled routes;
  • Never approach a suspicious vehicle or person.

Saskatoon police are encouraging anyone spotting suspicious people or activity to contact them at 306-975-8300.
