WATCH: Good samaritan praised for rescuing baby from hot van

WATCH ABOVE: Colton Shone spoke to Mary McInnes, the woman who called 911.

TORONTO – A woman in Arizona is being called a hero for calling 911 after discovering an infant stuck in a hot van outside a courthouse.

Mary McInnes, a grandmother, was walking in downtown Tucson earlier this month when she noticed that a baby,  covered by a blanket, was stuck inside a parked van on a hot day.

Upset, she immediately called 911 to report an emergency.

“Can you help me? There is a baby locked in a van,” she can be heard stating on a released copy of that call. “There’s a baby. I’m in downtown and there’s a baby locked in a van.”

A police report states, according to KOLD, that it was 85 degrees fahrenheit outside that day. The infant’s father had been inside the courthouse, along with his other daughter, to get an order of protection against his wife. He apparently admitted to being distracted and forgetting about the baby.

“It’s kind of a blur. It just happened so fast. I’m just glad I was there,” McInnes added.

A grand jury will decide the father’s fate at a later time.
