TORONTO – Severe thunderstorms moved across parts of the eastern United States Monday afternoon, prompting the U.S. Storm Prediction Center (SPC) to issue tornado watches and thunderstorm warnings across 8 states.
The warnings and watches stretched from Georgia north to New York state.
As of Monday afternoon the SPC received numerous wind and hail reports across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. There were even reports in Florida.

On Sunday, the weather agency received 14 reports of tornadoes.
So far the spring tornado season has gotten off to a slow start: in February the country only had two reported tornadoes. The three-year average is 46 for the month. In March the trend continued with 13 tornadoes reported when the three-year average was 64 for the month.
As of Monday, there had been 57 tornadoes reported for the month of April.
