TORONTO – Police are still searching for a man who may have escaped after allegedly killing a long-time employee of a North Carolina community college on Monday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. Monday on the third floor of the WLC Building near the school’s library on the Wayne Community College campus in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

The campus was put on lockdown, buildings were evacuated and the college’s website was emblazoned with a large warning shortly after the incident started saying, “This is not a drill. The entire campus is under lockdown.”

“This is indeed a sad day for WCC and this close family and community. Our hearts are heavy at the loss of an employee, a valued employee,” Dr. Kay Albertson, the school’s president, said during a press conference.

Major Tom Effler, of the Wayne County Sherrif’s department, said at a morning press conference that several teams of police officers cleared the building multiple times but did not find the shooter.

“This is not a random situation, this is an isolated situation,” Effler said, noting the shooter and the victim, identified by the school as Ron Lane, knew each other.

Police are looking for Kenneth Stancil who has been dubbed a person of interest. He’s said to be about 5-11, with a goatee and a tattoo over his eye.

Alex Hayden, a radio host in the city, was live tweeting reports from the scene shortly after the shooting occurred.
