Sask. unemployment rate drops to 4.4% in March

OTTAWA – The unemployment rate in Saskatchewan fell in March. Numbers released Friday by Statistics Canada said the unemployment rate was 4.4 per cent, down 0.6 percentage points from February.

The agency says that is the lowest rate in the country. The national unemployment rate was 6.8 per cent.

More people were also working in Saskatchewan during March, with 7,000 new jobs created. Statistics Canada said it was the first notable increase since September 2014. All of the job gains last month were full-time positions.

Compared to March 2014, employment in the province was up 1.2 per cent.
