Still no sign of missing UBC grad

Vancouver police are continuing to canvass Gastown and the Downtown Eastside today for a missing 25-year-old man.

Matthew Huszar, a UBC geology grad, was last seen after his office Christmas party in front of the Lamplighter Pub in Gastown just before midnight last Friday.

Huszar’s friends say he left them that evening, sober and in a good mood, and his family says he would never willingly go anywhere without contacting them for such a long time.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

They have been busy plastering the Downtown core with thousands of missing posters in the hope that someone will have seen their friend and son.

Today, VPD officers were out and about, trying to generate any new tips on Matthew’s disappearance.

“We are continuing our efforts,” says Cst. Jana McGuinness with Vancouver Police. “The beat officers will be going into businesses, and they’ll also be approaching people on the street in an effort to generate tips. Any small detail can sometimes be the piece that breaks the case open.”

McGuinness says they don’t have any compelling information to suggest why or how Matthew disappeared.

“His family is obviously devastated, and we are keeping them informed of our progress, but our hearts go out to them.”
