EDMONTON — After huge success last year, a popular vinyl sale is back this Easter long weekend.
Edmonton’s Dead Vinyl Society is hosting its second Super Mega Records Garage Sale, and cheap vinyl is the focus. Upwards of 50,000 LPs and 45s are on sale for just a few bucks a piece.
“What’s beautiful about this event is it’s a variety of people that are really all unified by one format,” said Yuri Wuensch, co-founder of the Dead Vinyl Society. “We’ve got country music fans, hip hop fans, dance music fans, rock fans, pop fans, you name it…They’re all unified by vinyl.”
The massive sale was held in Wuensch’s garage last year. But because of the huge demand it was moved to a larger venue this year – Kenilworth Community Hall.

Boxes upon boxes of records were laid out on tables inside the hall Friday, as hundreds of people lined up outside for their chance to get their hands on that special piece of vinyl.
“Records create a sense of time and place; you can always remember where you were when you found that record that you’ve been looking for for a long time,” said Wuensch.
“Nobody gets too nostalgic about the time they downloaded an MP3.”
“When you put a needle on the record there’s these cracks and pops and it’s real, you feel it,” added collector Jason Sather, who has about 30,000 records in his possession.
For Sather, the weekend is about both buying and selling. He plans to get rid of a few doubles while searching for something new and special.
“Going after the new find, the new record, just trying to find that elusive one,” he said.
The record sale is open at Kenilworth Community Hall, located at 7104-87 Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Records range in price from $1 to $3.
