A motorcyclist is lucky he didn’t lose more than some personal belongings during a frightening incident on the roads of Cuiaba, Brazil.
Businessman Jefferson Nunes de Siqueira was on his way to the bank to deposit around $5,000 on March 23 when he got caught in a rainstorm.

Video shot by a passing driver shows the scary moment when Nunes trips over a manhole uncovered by rising waters and the current of rushing rainwater sucks him in headfirst.
His feet can be seen flailing for four seconds until his helmeted head pops back up. Nunes told Brazilian news site G1 he nearly drowned but was able to pull himself back out.
“My motorcycle got stuck in the manhole and I fell in front of the motorcycle,” Nunes said. “When I got back up, the flood pushed me down and I was almost swallowed by the manhole.”

The current didn’t take his life, but it did take several personal documents, his cell phone, wedding ring, keys and nearly $3,000 cash. His motorcycle was also damaged.
Nunes says he plans to file a lawsuit against the city.
