WINNIPEG — Food truck operations now have to dish out more money to set up shop along city streets.

Operators of the mobile restaurants have to get a new permit from the city starting Wednesday.

Trucks under 22 feet in length (6.7 metres) have to pay $1,706 to park in a high-demand zone. The fee jumps to $3,386 for vehicles over 22 feet.

The permits only cover parking from April 1 through Oct. 31.

The fees reflect the cost operators had to pay to plug the parking meter, which they won’t have to do with the new permit, city officials said.

The cost of a sidewalk permit for small food carts is $381.20. That takes into account a rental fee for the sidewalk space, city officials said.
