Trial date set for Calgary parents accused of starving teen to death

CALGARY – A trial date has been set for a Calgary couple accused of neglecting their diabetic 15-year-old son.

Alex Radita was found in medical distress in his Citadel home in May of 2013. An autopsy determined he died from a bacterial infection, which he contracted due to complications from neglect and starvation from Type 1 diabetes.

Rodica Radita and Emil Marian Radita were charged with first-degree murder in February of 2014, and ordered to stand trial one year later.

The couple has remained in custody ever since.

On Friday, a judge determined the pair would stand trial beginning on May 16th, 2016.
