CALGARY – The parents of a teen who died in his home were ordered to stand trial for first-degree murder on Friday.

Fifteen-year-old Alex Radita was found in medical distress in his Citadel home in May 2013. An autopsy determined Radita died from a bacterial infection caused by complications from neglect and starvation from Type 1 diabetes.

The victim had been diagnosed with diabetes several years before while living in B.C., but police allege his parents failed to help him get treatment. Police said at the time he didn’t have a family doctor.
