BERLIN – Police say a man dressed as Santa drugged a 15-year-old girl at a Berlin Christmas market on the weekend – the eighth such victim in a week.
Police spokesman Ivo Habedank said Monday the man offered the girl and her friend each a shot of what he said was alcohol in a paper cup Saturday night at the Alexanderplatz Christmas market. One girl refused, but the other girl drank both and soon started vomiting and was then hospitalized.
In other cases an unidentified man has handed out single-shot bottles of alcohol, saying he was celebrating his child’s birth.
Police say some of the victims – mostly young women – have lost consciousness and many have been briefly hospitalized.
Police say the suspect appears to be using a date rape type drug, but Habedank wouldn’t comment further.
