Alia Salem, executive director of the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said Monday that Al-Jumaili had escaped violence in Iraq and had been in Dallas for just 20 days when he was shot. Al-Jumaili, his wife and his brother-in-law were outside their apartment witnessing snow for the first time.
A fundraising page on LaunchGood.com is raising funds for Al-Jumaili’s wife, Zahraa, and family. The page says the husband and wife had reunited in Texas just weeks before his death after being apart for more than a year.
Salem says CAIR has raised a $7,000 reward for information to help in the investigation into the killing. The organization CrimeStoppers announced a separate $5,000 reward.
