CALGARY – Calgary Police announced Superintendent Paul Cook will serve as interim chief following the resignation of Rick Hanson on Feb. 25. Cook recently served as executive officer for Hanson.
Cook is a 25-year veteran of the Calgary Police, with experience serving as a hostage negotiator as well as in various senior multi-agency positions. Cook received the Distinguished Service Award in 2004 and the Exemplary Service Medal in 2010.
“I am delighted with the appointment of Paul Cook to Interim Chief,” said Calgary Police Commission Chair Rodney Fong in a statement. “He knows how the executive suite works, he is connected to the members, and he is an exceptionally accomplished senior officer and respected leader.”
Cook will take over Friday, March 13, 2015 when Hanson retires, and will serve until a new chief is appointed. Details of a search process have not yet been released.
