Want to own a piece of Okanagan history? Iconic Fintry Queen for sale

The Fintry Queen last operated in 2008.

PENTICTON — One of the Okanagan’s most recognized vessels is up for sale. The owner of the Fintry Queen has put the iconic passenger ship on the market.

“The plan is to find a new owner that is interested in moving the Fintry Queen to Penticton on a permanent basis and to establish regular routing for the ship throughout Lake Okanagan” says RE/MAX Penticton realtor, Richard Wilkins. The asking price is $349,900.

There was hope from current owner,  Andy Schwab, who purchased the ship back in 2012, that the Fintry would soon be back in business.

The latest effort was two weeks ago, when Schwab put a call out to the public to raise $600,000 towards giving the boat a face lift and building a dock in Penticton for the Fintry to call home. He promised those who invest in the historic ship will receive a 30 per cent tax credit to a maximum of $60,000.

Clearly, that plan didn’t pan out, as the Fintry is now on the market.

The Fintry Queen was built as a car ferry back in 1948, carrying passengers and vehicles across Okanagan Lake.
