Kelowna’s Fintry Queen moving to Penticton — maybe

The Fintry Queen last operated in 2008.

KELOWNA — Kelowna’s Fintry Queen is heading south.

Boat owner, Andy Schwab, says he has struck a five year lease agreement with the City of Penticton to dock the boat west of the downtown Kiwanis Pier.

The City of Penticton has confirmed the tentative agreement, saying it will be signed off when all conditions are met including approval from Transport Canada and an environmental review.

If all goes according to plan, Schwab hopes to have the Fintry Queen offering tours on Okangan Lake by next summer.  However, he still has to raise $500,000 to cover the costs of the new dock and $100,000 for renovations.

He says Penticton taxpayers will not be on the hook for any of the boat’s expenses including the new dock.

Schwab says if the Fintry Queen fails in Penticton, the City of Kelowna has agreed to take back the boat but only for dismantling for scrap.  Kelowna has confirmed the agreement.
