Victoria will begin its 39th annual flower count on Thursday, despite the fact most of Canada remains locked in a deep freeze.

The flower count pits municipality against municipality in the battle for the most blooms. Last year the city did see some snow during the event, but still counted more than 1.3 million blossoms.

The count runs until March 11 this year and is a way for the community to show their pride and the fact that Victoria has the mildest climate in Canada.
