TORONTO – Motorists can now pay for parking in Toronto by using a mobile parking app at select Green P locations.
The City of Toronto officially launched the smartphone app on Wednesday.
“It’s another example of how we can modernize this city and how we can deliver services,” Toronto Mayor John Tory said during a press conference at city hall on Thursday.
“We have to bring the services of this city into the 21st century.”
For now, drivers can only use the app at non-gated and off-street lots to pay for, track or extend parking session.
The city has also posted signs to identify if the mobile payment option is available in the area.
Drivers can also manage their accounts on any desktop or tablet web browser.
Furthermore, the system allows users to pay for parking through an Interactive Voice Response option on their cellphone.
A SMS text will alert people when the payment is confirmed along with a 10 minute expiry alert.
