UPDATE: Feb. 25 – Alleged sexual offender Mark Spelrem was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. last night in the 300 block of Powell Street.

Vancouver Police are warning sex workers to be careful after two women were violently assaulted on Feb. 19.

Police say early that day, a man contacted two online sex workers and told them to come to an apartment in the West End. Once the two 30-year-old women arrived, the man allegedly confined and sexually assaulted the two women. The victims eventually escaped and called police, but the suspect had fled before the officers arrived.

Forty-five-year-old Mark Stacy Spelrem is now wanted in connection to these assaults. Spelrem is Caucasian, 5’11” tall, with a slim build. He has short dyed blonde-orange hair that is spiked at the front and balding in the back.

Police say sex workers, specifically those working online in an outcall capacity, are asked to use extra caution when receiving responses to their advertisements.
