Albertans try to spot Leonardo DiCaprio at Canmore movie set

CALGARY – Residents in Alberta’s Bow Valley are stopping to stare into the huge fort that’s been constructed near Canmore to see if they can catch a glimpse of Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio.

The famous leading man is shooting The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel), along with co-stars Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Will Poulter (We’re The Millers) and Domhnall Gleeson (Dredd).

The film is based on Michael Punke’s novel The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge and stars DiCaprio as 19th century fur trapper Hugh Glass, who seeks revenge on the men who left him for dead after a Grizzly bear attack.

The set includes a teepee village on Spray Lakes Road, and is drawing a lot of attention from passersby, who’ve been taking photos of the temporary western scene. Casting calls were held in the area for young, scruffy-looking men; shooting starts Tuesday. The release date is set for the end of December.
