Second blast of winter storm hits Atlantic Canada

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The island of Newfoundland is bracing for another winter storm – the second blast in as many days.

Wind and winter storm warnings have been issued for much of the island today.

Environment Canada says winds gusting at 110 kilometres per hour are expected over the Avalon Peninsula.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for the bulk of the island west of the Avalon.

About 20 centimetres of snow and strong winds are the forecast.

Meanwhile, forecasters are warning residents of Atlantic Canada to brace for a major storm on Sunday that is expected to bring significant snowfall and strong winds.

As well, much of Nova Scotia – except the Annapolis Valley and northern Nova Scotia – could receive significant rainfall as the snow changes to rain.
