EDMONTON – A seasonal parking ban ended Sunday evening, but not without hundreds of tickets being handed out for violations.
According to the City of Edmonton, there were 1,339 violations during the two day ban, which is an increase of about 200 tickets from the previous seasonal parking ban in January.
“Again, we do have our trouble areas. Some places where people still don’t want to comply with it, says Bob Dunford, Director of Roadway Maintenance.
A lot of feedback from citizens though that they get annoyed with their neighbours that don’t comply, so I think that we’re starting to shift the mindset on that.”
On Monday, the focus for crews shifted to sanding, but Dunford doesn’t believe there is enough snow pack to warrant residential snow clear this week.
“Looking at the long range forecast with it warming up this week, thinking it might be better for it to warm a bit and then start the residential blading early next week.”
Dunford adds reducing the snow pack is key to having the snow melt quickly when temperatures rise in spring.
According to Global Edmonton weather specialist Mike Sobel, the temperature is suppose to jump to 3ºC on Thursday and 5ºC and 4ºC on Friday and Saturday.
