‘Meika was exuberant, vibrant’ says mother of deceased child: Video

CALGARY – The mother of a young girl who passed away earlier this month is speaking out for the first time.

Six-year-old Meika Jordan was rushed to hospital on November 13th but died a short time later.

At the time, Meika was staying with her biological father and his wife at their home in Temple.

Both Calgary Police Child Abuse and Homicide units continue to investigate but no charges have been laid.

Meika’s biological mother Kyla Guttman and her husband are searching for answers as they cope with their tragic loss.

“She was extremely exuberant, she was vibrant, very loving of everything nature,” says Kyla. “I am still in shock. There is still a part of me that wants her to come walking through the door.”

An autopsy was performed last week but police are still waiting for the results of more tests from the medical examiner.

Kyla says since her daughter’s death she and her husband Brian haven’t been able to work. The family is suffering financially as they attempt to organize a funeral for Meika.

“I drive for a living. I deliver to the school Meika attended,” says Brian Woodhouse, Meika’s step-father.

“I work at Toys r’ Us, so to have to be seeing the kids and babies and Barbies. I’m not sure how that’s going to work,” says Kyla.

Calgarians can donate towards the cost of Meika’s funeral by visiting any TD Canada Trust Branch.
