Water main break floods homes in Villeray

Police have closed Papineau Avenue, between L-O David and Jean Talon streets. Marquette and Everett streets are also closed. Global News

MONTREAL – Residents living on Marquette street in Villeray woke up to an unpleasant surprise Saturday morning.

At around 2:45 a.m. emergency services were called to three homes with flooded basements.

A pipe broke near Fabre metro station and filled the streets with water.

Eight citizens were evacuated from their homes and residents were asked to move their cars, while firefighters repaired the damage.

Police have closed Papineau Avenue in both directions, between L-O David and Jean Talon streets.

This incident comes almost exactly a week after another water main break wreaked havoc in the Plateau.
